Katarina began ice-skating at age five. Then, her talent became evident, and at the age of Karl-Marx-Stadt she entered the school that was specifically made for kids with sporting talents. The school was where she met Jutta Muller here. Witt placed second in the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. It was her first appearance. After that, she began dominating the sport thanks to elegance and grace. Olympic triumph Katarina Wit won gold in women's ice skating during the Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after a highly competitive and intense contest. A more competitive contest four years later, Witt was awarded her gold medal. Free skates were a loss, but her gold medal came from the performance she put at both mandatory figures (short program) and the compulsory figures. Witt was the first female to be crowned champion in male and female figure skating since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt had amazing success as an acting career, however she returned to her sports to participate in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. The team finished seventh, but she wowed fans despite not winning a medal. Witt got her induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame, 1995.
